CHAPTER 12—NON BELEIVERS

Saturday, November 12th, 2016

0629 local time

Bonham

Derek was in the middle of his breakfast when he picked up his cell phone. He was surprised to see he’d received a text during the night and didn’t remember hearing the phone beep. If his wife Eileen was here, she’d have heard the phone and awakened him.

Instead, Eileen was at a one-week course at Logistics Support Corporation to learn their accounting systems and procedures which would be followed for a two week-long Defense Procurement Agency course on government contracting and the Federal Acquisition Regulations. She would be back on Saturday.

Derek searched for the number in Tel Aviv where the time was two-thirty in the afternoon. The phone rang twice before a voice answered.

“Allo.”

“Good afternoon, Ari. It’s Derek. What is so urgent?”

“You heard about the ship, no?”

“Yes. Details were passed on to us by our client. Anything new on the remaining missiles?”

“We don’t know where they are, but we do know they were loaded on a ship in Rostov-on-Don and are eighty percent sure they are headed for the United States.”

“Can you send me what you have and we’ll see what we can find out.”

“The material should be in your inbox.”

“Thanks.”

“Oh, your DNI was officially notified about both types of weapons we captured on the Abdul-Muqaddim. Your secretary of state chewed out our ambassador because we told the world about the weapons and missiles. You’d think that your president would be happy but no, he sees us as the villain. Our ambassador politely told your secretary of state that Israel will continue to prevent the spread and use of chemical weapons.”

“Are you telling me that the information was not well-received?”

“Yes and no. Analysts in the CIA loved what we provided. The White House hated it.”

“Figures. I’ll call you later.”

When Derek walked into the offices of Camelot International, Zvi Rosenthal was bent over a desk studying a picture with a loupe. “Zvi, you look like you’ve been here all night.”

“Ari waited to call you after he figured you had gotten up. With me, he was not so polite. He called at midnight and I’ve been here ever since.” He was about to say something when the rest of the members of the team walked in with a box of donuts.

“Gather round guys, Zvi is going to go over some intel that will either mean that you’ll throw-up or be so motivated, that you’ll inhale all this sugary goodness.”

With that, Derek waved at Zvi who waited until everyone had a cup of coffee and, those who wanted one, a donut or cinnamon swirl.

Zvi finished chewing a crème-filled donut that he’d wolfed down. He added that the seized freighter had a ton of munitions, mostly ammo for AK-47s and 74s and RPG-7 rockets besides the missiles and bombs.

The Israeli looked at the others. None spoke so he continued. “The MV Abdul-Muqaddim has an interesting history. The ship was one of twenty built based on the U.S. Army’s 381 Design by the Albina Engine and Machine Works of Portland, Oregon under a U.
